Back in 1995: What Were We Playing?

Admin

In 1995, there were more and more games, more and more development companies that we know and who are still trying to stay afloat and please the players. Online casinos were becoming increasingly popular on the Internet, which at that time offered only the simplest slots, and now on https://www.cookiecasino.com/en-CA/games/live you can find all the coolest slots from the gambling world. Probably in 1995 it would have seemed fantastic to us!

Not to say that something extremely important happened for the industry this year, and there were practically no new consoles, the market was successfully divided by several candidates who continued to wage their war. Japan, although it was the engine of gaming progress, still no longer remained alone in this field, so the world of video games gradually developed and grew. And what exactly we saw this year, you will find out below. Get ready, we’re going to 1995.

New Technologies

Sony is releasing its Playstation to the US market, so more and more gamers are getting their hands on this great game console for that time, which naturally entails the development of video games in this region. But if we already know about the Playstation, then Nintendo has shown something new this year.

It was the first VR station codenamed VR32, and the market name was Virtual Boy. The console was advertised as the first 32-bit gaming system capable of displaying three-dimensional stereoscopic graphics. The player applies a mounted display with an eyepiece and a parallax effect to his head to create the illusion of depth. But, unfortunately, the novelty did not have the desired effect: high cost, problems with development and a weighty argument in the form of potential health problems for players – all this had its effect and literally in a year the idea burned down and the production of the console was discontinued.

The Japanese market was gradually moving deeper into Europe and North America, and there were no more or less important developments this year. Each company tried to capture as much of the market as possible, and Nintendo began lawsuits against Samsung and NTDEC (Taiwanese manufacturers of unlicensed cartridges). In general, it is a standard market relationship.

A Little Bit About the Developers

This year, the Canadian company BioWare was founded, which we know from such series as Mass Effect and Dragon Age, if we talk specifically about their developments. And if not, it’s Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: KotOR. In recent years, of course, the studio has not pleased fans too much, but now a new chapter of Dragon Age is being prepared, which was met with rather skepticism by the players and a new project in the Mass Effect series. And the last game released from the pen of the company was the failed Anthem, which was released in 2019.

New Games

BioForge

Quite an interesting action-adventure game, positioning itself as a game of the interactive cinema genre due to the large list of actors involved (22 people) and its deep plot. It was released only for PC, had quite high hardware requirements at that time, but, unfortunately, it did not gain much popularity. Many people think that BioForge is one of those games that were underestimated at the time. And in the game itself, which takes place in the distant future, we had to play as a cyborg who wakes up in a prison cell and does not remember his past at all. It’s a familiar story, isn’t it?

Chrono Trigger

I think many people know this series about a company of time travelers who are trying to prevent the destruction of the world in the distant future. This is a Japanese role-playing game, although many may know more about the sequel – Chrono Cross. The game designers of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest took part in the creation of the game. In Japan, it was a real sensation at the same FF level, in Europe, of course, the game did not shoot so powerfully, but it found its fans. And they praised her for everything – a non-linear plot, perfectly written characters, wonderful music and excellent graphics for her time.

Command & Conquer

RTS fans certainly know about such a series of games as Command & Conquer. In the 95th year, the first part in the series was released, which is also known by the subtitle Tiberian Dawn. According to the press, the game has become one of the list of those that have made a great contribution to the development of the genre, but I won’t even argue with this, since it really is. The game presented two story campaigns for two sides of the conflict that arose on an alternate Earth, several missions in each, and these missions were accompanied by video inserts. In which a representative of your chosen faction explained the essence of the task. In general, the quality of the game was at the highest level, so it was met as it should be and subsequently received quite a powerful development.
